a {riley blake} modern quilt guild challenge. we were give a few fat eighths of <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/riley-blake-fabric/the-cottage-garden-the-quilted-fish-riley-blake-designs">cottage garden</a> and able to include any riley blake solids. my inspiration came from an older fabric of jay mccarroll's center city. i loved the challenge of a simple rectangle set in different ways within each other and overlapping.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i am really pleased with how this turned out. {please excuse the terrible picture. my good camera is broken. boo} the process was so freeing. i used a method from daintytime's book, which encouraged quilters to lose the ruler and use the rotary cutter freehandedly. it was so fun! </div>

you could say i had a swap problem {addiction} this past spring. here are the mini's i created for my partners. i had so much fun! i think mini's are a perfect way to try out patterns or techniques i may not be willing to try out for a whole huge quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
first up is my <a href="http://lizzyhouse.typepad.com/">lizzy house</a> mini quilt. i used carolyn friedlander's <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB8QFjAAahUKEwiat5ywyOrGAhVYf5IKHQxcCZ8&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcarolynfriedlander.com%2Ftag%2Faerial-grove-quilt%2F&ei=U1ytVdrBFtj-yQSMuKX4CQ&usg=AFQjCNF66qR14mdprA8IvZJ5WO23NRqL5A&sig2=T4bMfZ2Dm1TMoupiNgAk_A&bvm=bv.98197061,d.aWw">aerial grove</a> quilt pattern. what a great i-spy pattern. i actually surprised myself by how much i enjoyed the hand applique process for this quilt. so much so, i'm contemplating a full size aerial grove.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPLVyisER8X284tpYN_7DtXcCkHgSO0r5OJv22rwhI3Vd5K-k3fdY9VbxFrEmmkkjAvM7sx596DAD5FdzGjLuU2-hFeaI_BNyR1hmQNUVjFwuLHW9TWey6mB1pSzfjj09ODvBj_C2mNW4/s1600/IMG_2566.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPLVyisER8X284tpYN_7DtXcCkHgSO0r5OJv22rwhI3Vd5K-k3fdY9VbxFrEmmkkjAvM7sx596DAD5FdzGjLuU2-hFeaI_BNyR1hmQNUVjFwuLHW9TWey6mB1pSzfjj09ODvBj_C2mNW4/s320/IMG_2566.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
next up is my anna maria horner mini quilt. i took a six-minute circle technique class at our last STLMQG retreat last year and put those techniques to use in this mini orange peel quilt. it was a little time consuming, but i'm pleased with how this turned out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7SGrz_BqDhQ/Va1ZHyCis5I/AAAAAAAABho/M5bV7vWE_vE/s1600/IMG_2497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7SGrz_BqDhQ/Va1ZHyCis5I/AAAAAAAABho/M5bV7vWE_vE/s320/IMG_2497.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
the last is my cotton and steel mini quilt. i used a paper pieced <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/string-spider-web.html">spiderweb</a> block for this quilt. i was also inspired by <a href="http://annamariahorner.blogspot.com/">AMH'</a>s <a href="http://annamariahorner.blogspot.com/2011/06/spinning-stars.html">spinning star</a> pattern. i've always loved the spiderweb block and forsee another of these in full size also.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O9t5A5u4VfQ/Va1ZKXPSkPI/AAAAAAAABh8/anUEHsdgur0/s1600/IMG_2564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O9t5A5u4VfQ/Va1ZKXPSkPI/AAAAAAAABh8/anUEHsdgur0/s320/IMG_2564.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
besides the quilts, i used <a href="http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/2015/05/qayg-pouches-tutorial.html">this tutorial</a> for these quilt as you go pouches. they were a quick whip up and i think they turned out fun.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqtIO4s_W1KxrKygFdWYQCFPZIMy7FCHKRsqxYe5pZBijMMuNGmLHaEPYo6JTvEQCVZGleZ0VqwiNSgU3X9df_yeJ1X-h4GBN7hIxU02inrRLzXBAz9gGjZNknrr6Mf_TiaHpVgQ80KUw/s1600/IMG_2509.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqtIO4s_W1KxrKygFdWYQCFPZIMy7FCHKRsqxYe5pZBijMMuNGmLHaEPYo6JTvEQCVZGleZ0VqwiNSgU3X9df_yeJ1X-h4GBN7hIxU02inrRLzXBAz9gGjZNknrr6Mf_TiaHpVgQ80KUw/s320/IMG_2509.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
the swaps were a great way to sink yourself into some social media circles and create something for someone else that might be out of your normal comfort levels. it was great and i'd do it again!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rJlZaQ8GVio/Va1ZIVA8_gI/AAAAAAAABhw/ppO9eIeXCgk/s1600/IMG_2508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rJlZaQ8GVio/Va1ZIVA8_gI/AAAAAAAABhw/ppO9eIeXCgk/s320/IMG_2508.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i'm pretty excited about this quilt. i've had a package of <a href="http://umbrellaprints.blogspot.com/">umbrella trimmings</a> for two years with the intention of making a quilt to enter into the contest. this year i pushed myself to complete it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LhXYZyvN0kk/VWnWFPxS4bI/AAAAAAAABeo/25O88Gj95q4/s1600/IMG_1648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LhXYZyvN0kk/VWnWFPxS4bI/AAAAAAAABeo/25O88Gj95q4/s320/IMG_1648.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qm-IE63UQAo/VWnRHBNejzI/AAAAAAAABeI/S3ecaejxhn0/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qm-IE63UQAo/VWnRHBNejzI/AAAAAAAABeI/S3ecaejxhn0/s320/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
lately, i've found myself quilting based off of a lot of patterns, and while i have enjoyed what i'm making, i've felt rather bound. the arrival of <a href="http://daintytime.net/">daintytime's</a> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1617691380/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1617691380&linkCode=as2&tag=daintytime-20&linkId=QEAT7IBLNDL3TXQI">book</a> into my library and the endless inspiration and creative options in it pushed me to pick up the trimmings pack and set to work. this quilt was inspired by this <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFFcXyzaoQ2cvz01feJXc4Q03xvGKaHfHaMg35EAHVBuDqQLytxxjgMBmEIx6DMlq1tbNBpKIrkXjHzL3iueu52AIwAowjr9eK_8WsiFhtsBvceP_vqGUvX3aYx2aj9QnJ6YZ_0HMkAJw/s1600/Alexander-girard-rain-herman-miller.jpg">textile </a>and without a ruler. how freeing to just cut fabric and sew!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VMbT5ReyLb8/VWnRHcchaiI/AAAAAAAABeM/erYBDf1Zx1s/s1600/FullSizeRender_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VMbT5ReyLb8/VWnRHcchaiI/AAAAAAAABeM/erYBDf1Zx1s/s320/FullSizeRender_1.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
i started with a basic block of the triangles, with that as my only 'parameter'. seeing a pile of traingle-ish scraps, i decided the next 'parameter' would be to use all of the umbrella prints scraps, down to teeny tiny bits. the quilt was intentionally left not square.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFv-BblY4O6mGYiosnIXHbCAhf551PBSHAAlkw1TlxRj7xzzfYGiNh75oRXAKshVmmVaV2weBK_XQqLvhrLNEvIm5Y1h2EjuVkRlxPDGXxKMIFPgJFr5MPaFDU0sd_lrOlDNBFiPEPzgM/s1600/FullSizeRender_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFv-BblY4O6mGYiosnIXHbCAhf551PBSHAAlkw1TlxRj7xzzfYGiNh75oRXAKshVmmVaV2weBK_XQqLvhrLNEvIm5Y1h2EjuVkRlxPDGXxKMIFPgJFr5MPaFDU0sd_lrOlDNBFiPEPzgM/s320/FullSizeRender_2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
this quilt was a great intro into the options this book inspires. i'm excited to work on the next project!</div>

i WAS excited about the different quilting options available with this one. i used all kinds of colorful <a href="http://www.aurifil.com/">aurifil</a> thread i had won and quilted each color mountain with straight lines but in different designs.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ptYZI64axpo/VVo16TyGjeI/AAAAAAAABcE/wYj1q-skHHA/s1600/IMG_1945.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ptYZI64axpo/VVo16TyGjeI/AAAAAAAABcE/wYj1q-skHHA/s320/IMG_1945.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this is my FWQAL {farmer's wife quilt along quilt} i started at the beginning of 2012 with a group of other online folks who wanted to tackle this pattern. this project was a growth builder for me in the piecing of these small blocks, both in accuracy and fabric choices. i've read other patchwork ladies talk about how they chose fabric they like for the individual blocks when they worked on them, but not necessarily coordinating between all blocks, somehow still ending up with a quilt you love. through the questioning of myself and my fabric choices as i worked on this {over YEARS} and having those choices change, i am completly in love with the final product. it makes me want to do another even scrappier quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbyNZfbyOT563qxAlfRhhmNFq_xwIm4SQkI0aKBrpgTwflSqCCUAJEl1vG14XcdpYO19H3vkej0o1gYV4GCPcBv2XxnTPdc6LI6J7NOUUATva2hp7JiDn8VclXgXF0gIyAxSY-YBLS4B4/s1600/IMG_1946.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbyNZfbyOT563qxAlfRhhmNFq_xwIm4SQkI0aKBrpgTwflSqCCUAJEl1vG14XcdpYO19H3vkej0o1gYV4GCPcBv2XxnTPdc6LI6J7NOUUATva2hp7JiDn8VclXgXF0gIyAxSY-YBLS4B4/s320/IMG_1946.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
the other appealing thing for me on a project like this is the speed in which one can make a 6" block or two. a block here and there add up until you have a quilts worth.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvyuERPtWLvarf0yCcc6wc6JG8KUppmGIAzlYAuaDf56sR2-rGXIQ6xTt7ASi_1dBb0X9Jc4e2TNVVwbncwZCLmECHKOv_v8Sd4XiakJ7L0Lh_ad8WHm-UEWeAvvDrdA4lMYiUwX4lSZ4/s1600/IMG_1948.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvyuERPtWLvarf0yCcc6wc6JG8KUppmGIAzlYAuaDf56sR2-rGXIQ6xTt7ASi_1dBb0X9Jc4e2TNVVwbncwZCLmECHKOv_v8Sd4XiakJ7L0Lh_ad8WHm-UEWeAvvDrdA4lMYiUwX4lSZ4/s320/IMG_1948.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
i also really wanted to finish this whole quilt myself. the spiral quilting i thought would soften the block edges and was a technique i really wanted to try. i'm really pleased with the results.<br />

excited for a productive year and to have crossed off some of my resolutions from last year off my list.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
inspiration was easy to find after perusing <a href="http://stlouisfolkvictorian.blogspot.com/">kristy's</a> pinterest board and finding <a href="http://cloud9fabrics.com/fabrics/dem-bones/">this </a>fabric bundle of sarah watson's Dem Bones. i drafted a paper pieced skull pattern imitating the fabric that is on the back {and not actually shown here}. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r49UOGGKolI/U7RwNA6V3xI/AAAAAAAABO0/wLtBvC3CI5I/s1600/DSC02123.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r49UOGGKolI/U7RwNA6V3xI/AAAAAAAABO0/wLtBvC3CI5I/s1600/DSC02123.JPG" height="288" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://missstashwould.blogspot.com/">lynne's</a> pinterest board revealed her love of the plus pattern. combined with her known love for solids, this pillow came together in another low volume project. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i'm so pleased with the way all of these pillows turned out, specific to each of these special ladies. i'm looking forward to another year, another round!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e4MW0123HLc/U7W-rtSOAYI/AAAAAAAABPI/orQDjD37FDI/s1600/DSC00095.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e4MW0123HLc/U7W-rtSOAYI/AAAAAAAABPI/orQDjD37FDI/s1600/DSC00095.JPG" height="255" width="320" /></a></div>
it started with a few screen printed blocks from amanda at the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheCraftJunky">craft junky</a>. she was delightful to work with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSvED-x27ho1xZfSMts7LbASZqbgmOu637GO0snriLhWIXPYvwlt9MGzFO3HVNsKkU_jYoOk0n2i8sZiTvQG2YtWNm2N210EJO6CzMi0fQCVKkiQ_sJt4cuRP-aB2Tqg8wxuhTK_Ar_1U/s1600/DSC00097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSvED-x27ho1xZfSMts7LbASZqbgmOu637GO0snriLhWIXPYvwlt9MGzFO3HVNsKkU_jYoOk0n2i8sZiTvQG2YtWNm2N210EJO6CzMi0fQCVKkiQ_sJt4cuRP-aB2Tqg8wxuhTK_Ar_1U/s1600/DSC00097.JPG" height="136" width="320" /></a></div>
searching online for free paper pieced harry potter blocks led me to <a href="http://www.fandominstitches.com/2011/05/harry-potter.html">this site</a>, rounding me out with the crest, wands, and the deathly hallows symbol.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ybCEpbxl7gY/U7W-rmRKPAI/AAAAAAAABPE/nRBly49h9Dg/s1600/DSC00098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ybCEpbxl7gY/U7W-rmRKPAI/AAAAAAAABPE/nRBly49h9Dg/s1600/DSC00098.JPG" height="112" width="320" /></a></div>
improv-ing {yes, a word} my way along, with some solid advice from friends, i added some color with the low volume background. this quilt, then, is my first official dive into the 'low volume' aesthetic. it's also my first REAL attempt at free motion quilting, and while it's not perfect by any means, i feel confident about gifting it away to this special babe.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ph8y3rkHA7o/U7XB6iRVBMI/AAAAAAAABPk/DU18pou4yMU/s1600/DSC00091.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ph8y3rkHA7o/U7XB6iRVBMI/AAAAAAAABPk/DU18pou4yMU/s1600/DSC00091.JPG" height="252" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
i've been wanting to try out <a href="http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?p=561">this </a>pattern since i saw it years ago. the search for pink in the stash and grays from the scrap bucket were complimented by the ease with which i found this pattern to be followed.<br />
<br />
this quilt is the first i've used quilter's dream batting for, and it will certainly not be the last. it truly is a dream, and the drape!...seriously worth the extra money.<br />

i really should know better than to rely on my memory to keep an accurate account of {well, anything, really} how inspiration moves. i know it started by looking at the spindl-y fabric, to circles-radius'-stars, to dissecting above items, to this randomly finished project.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1cyfz64pqpE/U7XIGr-lpLI/AAAAAAAABPw/TOXd_v4ekjw/s1600/DSC00129.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1cyfz64pqpE/U7XIGr-lpLI/AAAAAAAABPw/TOXd_v4ekjw/s1600/DSC00129.JPG" height="320" width="252" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the thing i love about this project is that i really had no idea where i was going with it. it morphed at each stage. it's not my favorite quilt at all, but i am glad to have finished it and to have tried something new and pretty outside my normal asthetic. the curves are free-handedly cut and sewn back together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nhDMJnO7yRw/U7XIGq4-qOI/AAAAAAAABP0/tEDL9J7kq6k/s1600/DSC00122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nhDMJnO7yRw/U7XIGq4-qOI/AAAAAAAABP0/tEDL9J7kq6k/s1600/DSC00122.JPG" height="209" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
i wanted to play with the negative space, but didn't feel like curvy-line-quilting would have done it justice. i went with 1/4" straight line quilting instead. i like it, but feel like maybe a different kind of quilting could have stepped it up a notch. not to mention learning that unless it's a small quilt, there may never be 1/4" quilting in my future again {takes for.e.ver.}.<br />
<br />
i'm glad to be joining my fellow <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fstlmqg.blogspot.com%2F&ei=Asu1U76oFdGzyASy1YHABQ&usg=AFQjCNF6M8c4SrgM0V57koPi52KjqVruSw&sig2=el1K1kArFgkhNDRB8VUGBw&bvm=bv.70138588,d.aWw">guild </a>members in the michael miller fabric challenge open wide to the modern quilting guild.<br />

the first is a mini color wheel inspired by <a href="http://teaginnydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/06/voile-color-wheel-quilt.html">alex</a> and <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/tag/mini-quilts">purl soho</a>'s. purl soho offered a {free pattern} that i cut from single pieces of 16 fabrics. Finished it measures about 20.5". fabrics are AMH's <a href="http://store.annamariahorner.com/newdowry.html">dowry</a> and <a href="http://store.annamariahorner.com/truecolors.html">true colors</a> and <a href="http://carolynfriedlander.com/products/fabric/architextures/">architextures</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0XCGCbeyTLc/U7RuuK0wuTI/AAAAAAAABOg/eDQ_1WOIhqA/s1600/DSC00100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0XCGCbeyTLc/U7RuuK0wuTI/AAAAAAAABOg/eDQ_1WOIhqA/s1600/DSC00100.JPG" height="273" width="320" /></a></div>
the second is the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/sewing/accessory/sew-together-bag/36309">sew together bag</a> from sew demented.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AyhCX5ARgx8/U7RurZX2HLI/AAAAAAAABOQ/zJqrqeDfciU/s1600/DSC00110.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AyhCX5ARgx8/U7RurZX2HLI/AAAAAAAABOQ/zJqrqeDfciU/s1600/DSC00110.JPG" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this one was a little tricky to put together, but well worth the effort. picking out the gorgeous fabric was definitely the fun part!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vm8M55unHNU/U7RurVNqGpI/AAAAAAAABOI/W8sM6M0v4wo/s1600/DSC00107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vm8M55unHNU/U7RurVNqGpI/AAAAAAAABOI/W8sM6M0v4wo/s1600/DSC00107.JPG" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yxcY6EpVX_o/U7Rure1rbaI/AAAAAAAABOM/zPF9yQNaNC8/s1600/DSC00108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yxcY6EpVX_o/U7Rure1rbaI/AAAAAAAABOM/zPF9yQNaNC8/s1600/DSC00108.JPG" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
i love having these projects in rotation of daily life. it makes life much more colorful!laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05544955051816924972noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-254754662912704655.post-47761285542345192602014-02-15T06:40:00.001-08:002014-02-15T06:40:07.899-08:00{challenge}this is my stlmqg challenge quilt. we were given Riley Blake fabric to use. our guild's <a href="http://stlmqg.blogspot.com/p/challenge.html">guidelines</a> were that it had to be a finished quilt bigger than 24" on all sides. i've wanted to try out the <a href="http://alisonglass.bigcartel.com/product/feathers-quilt-pattern">feathers quilt</a> block/pattern. i was also inspired by <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=target+chevron+mug&espv=210&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&imgil=s7BoI9f8eEV1KM%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcROn3MHFFrE2kOA49eHbnt9hDXsctwpU87bofU1VqsTbMa7PCJt3Q%253B410%253B410%253B6yWS1l_5TNpr0M%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.pinterest.com%25252Fpin%25252F23643966767485432%25252F&source=iu&usg=__pLxO-bPtJH5QBZNdcf_6Lp3RjWo%3D&sa=X&ei=K3v_Ut_vOIaSyAHSkoGACA&ved=0CEAQ9QEwBA&biw=1366&bih=643#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=s7BoI9f8eEV1KM%253A%3B6yWS1l_5TNpr0M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmedia-cache-ak0.pinimg.com%252F736x%252Fb4%252F1c%252F0a%252Fb41c0a3182c4e3ee77cdc4f30276229e.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.pinterest.com%252Fpin%252F23643966767485432%252F%3B410%3B410">this</a> target mug {my daily favorite mug}. i'm pleased with how it came out and am excited about the possibilities this block has in all sorts of different projects.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gY1L4N7BxU/Uv96g24nDpI/AAAAAAAABM0/q3FaIG4He34/s1600/DSC02114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gY1L4N7BxU/Uv96g24nDpI/AAAAAAAABM0/q3FaIG4He34/s1600/DSC02114.JPG" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
i opted for some straight line quilting in clumps. i like the opposing texture it gives the quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DPNMJkaoIIg/Uv96hCRU2oI/AAAAAAAABM8/oRZQZciTNEI/s1600/DSC02117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DPNMJkaoIIg/Uv96hCRU2oI/AAAAAAAABM8/oRZQZciTNEI/s1600/DSC02117.JPG" height="220" width="320" /></a></div>
you can really see the texture the quilting gives on the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

this is a noodlehead <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2013/01/divided-basket-pattern.html">divided basket </a>i made for my sister {who loves organization}. it was an extremely easy pattern to follow and fun to make.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKsDNHLLzkQXYKDIO9fkE_GRiirw7XNZOiNwIcXKyg3L8ZnsduZUuJJvYZnfVbsZoQEkCgNIJnXBkwF39ni7KrrXmgrfwwTK2-kNDeB20QRh7l1jnt5yks3488EMnAAnMMebLEB8UnIQA/s1600/DSC01828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKsDNHLLzkQXYKDIO9fkE_GRiirw7XNZOiNwIcXKyg3L8ZnsduZUuJJvYZnfVbsZoQEkCgNIJnXBkwF39ni7KrrXmgrfwwTK2-kNDeB20QRh7l1jnt5yks3488EMnAAnMMebLEB8UnIQA/s1600/DSC01828.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
i also needed a new purse and had the noodlehead <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2011/08/go-anywhere-bag-pattern_26.html">go anywhere bag</a> pattern. i seriously LOVE this bag and know it won't be the only one i make. the size is perfect, with tons of pockets. i love how sturdy it is. of course it helps when you use a favorite fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqlmY1DT5jgRvRt49qkT_UP2EY5FJVfAC7Mp3qIjpQmG8H0f1lBPF4ouBMo1SwtN4qlAMAL9dHOiOSDkxhkjflGeuvSZuh6LBCdyRS6QUE8GJB4WgEfvKvMGqQTkehuI9oaa7M9M8JKhA/s1600/DSC01840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqlmY1DT5jgRvRt49qkT_UP2EY5FJVfAC7Mp3qIjpQmG8H0f1lBPF4ouBMo1SwtN4qlAMAL9dHOiOSDkxhkjflGeuvSZuh6LBCdyRS6QUE8GJB4WgEfvKvMGqQTkehuI9oaa7M9M8JKhA/s1600/DSC01840.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
i ended up with my sister's name for our family christmas secret santa exchange. she is a hairdresser who often finds herself out and about to do wedding hair and had asked me a while ago if i would make her some bags to hold her stuff in. i shopped in my stash and also took this opportunity to make a few boxy pouches. i used a mix of the tutorial at the <a href="http://www.theplaidscottie.com/2010/11/box-pouch-tutorial.html">plaid scottie</a> and the one at <a href="http://www.trulymyrtle.com/2012/03/box-bag-tutorial.html">truly myrtle.</a> the latter includes the formula for changing up the sizes of your bags, which was super helpful.<br />

the last one was a <a href="http://www.ohfransson.bigcartel.com/product/perfect-zip-bags-pdf-sewing-pattern">perfect zip bag</a>. i really like the shape and sturdiness of this bag. it will definitely be a pattern i use again.</div>

for our {lou}bee swap in november i had cara. i was inspired by <a href="http://badskirt.blogspot.com/2012/12/joining-of-squares.html">these</a> <a href="http://alittlegray.blogspot.com/2013/10/rocky-mountain-puzzle-for-do-good.html">rocky mountian puzzle blocks</a>, and thought they would be perfect for my munki loving friend. it was fun to pick out fabrics for this pillow. i actually used a necklace i knew cara loved for the color inspiration. i had the back dot picked out and while we were on a retreat heard her say it might be her favorite fabric ever. win for me! </div>

her girls are star wars fans {as well as my boys}, which makes for a great excuse to get a bit of star wars fabrics in the collection. this pouch is a pattern in <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1596685999/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1596685999&linkCode=as2&tag=pinkpeng-20">patchwork please.</a> i really like the shape of it, although the lining is hand stitched in, which takes a while. i'm pleased with their turnout.</div>

my last quilt done from 2013. this is our {lou}bee quilt from 2012/13, where we each picked/designed a block to put in a sewing themed quilt. you can read some of my posts about this quilt in process <a href="http://xomadewithlove.blogspot.com/2013/01/loubee.html">here</a> and <a href="http://xomadewithlove.blogspot.com/2013/06/catch-up.html">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
it was a bit of a puzzle to figure out how to lay it out. i paper pieced 8 <a href="http://badskirt.blogspot.com/2013/05/free-bee-freebie.html">{bee}blocks</a>, the free pattern from badskirt, one per {bee}member. the rest was a use of the fabric i had leftover and a few pieces of specific sewing-themed fabric i had.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pjGG1Z14hPQ/UscbSmUyVCI/AAAAAAAABKo/YgAyE7459VA/s1600/DSC02099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pjGG1Z14hPQ/UscbSmUyVCI/AAAAAAAABKo/YgAyE7459VA/s1600/DSC02099.JPG" height="272" width="320" /></a></div>
i decided to quilt it using straight lines in hopes that {besides, of course, it being my favorite} it would be a unifying but not destracting element to the quilt. i think it worked.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

the back was pieced with leftovers and a timeless treasures <a href="http://www.modes4u.com/en/kawaii/p18773_Timeless-Treasures-retro-sewing-machines-sewing-fabric.html">retro sewing machine</a> fabric i about died over for this quilt. this is such a special quilt to remind me of the sweet community of sewing ladies i've the pleasure of knowing.<br />

the first is the pattern <a href="http://www.teaginnydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/08/busy-city-pattern.html">busy city</a> by teaginny. i have been adoring this pattern since i first found <a href="http://teaginnydesigns.blogspot.com/2010/04/busytown-quilt.html">her quilt.</a> i was ecstatic to be the winner of the pattern and would recommend it to anyone. it's a fabulous pattern, with all of the paper pieced vehicles on cd. i'm happy to call this quilt a scrap quilt {even the background}. this was a lot of fun to make and i'm sure there will be more little trucks in my future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

the quilting is a mimic of the plaid print that is on the back.<br />

the next 2 are the same block. it's the modern maple block that has been all over the internet. i thought i'd try it on a small scale first. i ended up with enough blocks for two quilts.</div>

i've decided to stick with pillows {i hope that's good for the girls who have yet to get theirs}. what i love about these are the fact they are basically mini quilts. it's been fun to try some new things.<br />
month #1 for <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41966066@N06/">JuliAnn</a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">{20" pillow}</span></div>
completely inspired by the AMH prism <a href="http://www.annamariahorner.com/Patchwork.Prism.Quilt.pdf">quilt/pillow</a>. i ADORE these fabrics and pattern. AMH is a color genius. seriously.{hopefully soon} you will see a full quilt inspired by this.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i was making some of these little guys for my little boys and thought i'd send some along for her boy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
month #2 for <a href="http://splendorfallsmc.blogspot.com/">MaryClaire</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

another AMH <a href="http://www.annamariahorner.com/Feather.Bed.Quilt.pdf">free pattern</a>, the feather pattern. done in the lovely <a href="http://dsquilts.com/fabric_and_patterns.asp?PageID=255">chicopee</a>. i love everything about this pillow.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">{18" pillow}</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
month #3 for <a href="http://jamiemueller.blogspot.com/">Jamie</a></div>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/49352884@N06/10156248465/sizes/o/in/photostream/"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3815/10156248465_3e51ceacd1_o.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">{picture borrowed from Jamie}{my pillow is on the left}{18" pillow}</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
this pillow was fun for me. i love these fabrics <a href="http://tulapink.com/">{tula pink}</a>, though not as much as jamie, i just have a really hard time using them in things i'm creating for myself. it was fun to be thinking of jamie's love for these as i used them. this was also my first time piecing <a href="http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/2012/02/sewing-hexagons-by-machine-without.html">hexagons by machine</a>. ooooo...i'm so glad i tried this. it makes the thought of a hexagon quilt a little further in my reach of possible. i am obviously a dork, though, and completely forgot that juliann had ALSO made her a tula hexagon pillow. nothing new under the sun. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
i'm using <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/2011/02/how-to-make-a-basic-pillow-how-to-finish-a-pillow-with-binding/">this</a> pillow tutorial and will probably do a separate pinterest-y post with more links.</div>

<br />
it doesn't help when there has been secret sewing going on. i'm excited to finally get to share a little quilt i made for my nephew, who will be making me an aunt the beginning of novemeber.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNAMa1wv4ykYtqgqvagJar0WFDm6RS8jraOs4mlz2cdvRaT2kMrpuHg-0flG3SAJbjuRad-249KXlBDjZ8byPxYE7nWM-TayK5GHdJd8LzSXASsgbztyUYbblawYKkYaY4JnhM1KpWK9A/s1600/DSC01833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNAMa1wv4ykYtqgqvagJar0WFDm6RS8jraOs4mlz2cdvRaT2kMrpuHg-0flG3SAJbjuRad-249KXlBDjZ8byPxYE7nWM-TayK5GHdJd8LzSXASsgbztyUYbblawYKkYaY4JnhM1KpWK9A/s1600/DSC01833.JPG" height="256" width="320" /></a></div>
this quilt was part of a couple of projects we did with the STLMQG. the first is a workshop we were lucky enough to participate in with <a href="http://stlmqg.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-stlmqg-welcomes-jacquie-gering.html">Jacquie Gering.</a> what a blast!! this lady was real and genuine and i so loved hearing her stories about how and why she creates the way she does. it was a morning well spent! i had other ideas for my 'crazy piecing', but in the end the crazy was getting a little TOO crazy. i used it as the 'grass' part of my quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XNU2k8azdaw/UlRl10pRXvI/AAAAAAAABGQ/MqxTP0PKccs/s1600/DSC01835.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XNU2k8azdaw/UlRl10pRXvI/AAAAAAAABGQ/MqxTP0PKccs/s1600/DSC01835.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
the other challenge we did was the '<a href="http://stlmqg.blogspot.com/p/challenge.html">ohio star</a>' challenge. basically we had to make a quilt using the traditional block in a more modern way. my sister has a loose owl theme going for my nephew's room. stars+owls seem to make the perfect quilt to me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oF7WA_mhmIM/UlRqOfJttdI/AAAAAAAABGs/JIFQT_9GgTk/s1600/DSC01836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oF7WA_mhmIM/UlRqOfJttdI/AAAAAAAABGs/JIFQT_9GgTk/s1600/DSC01836.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
this was the first time i did a more patchwork background on a quilt. i was pretty nervous about how it would turn out. keeping the blocks in a light-dark progression and the stars in the consistant white gave some structure to the improv. i LOVE how it turned out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YgNlhPUK73k/UlRl1_o8YDI/AAAAAAAABGY/UP_d_givhPs/s1600/DSC01831.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YgNlhPUK73k/UlRl1_o8YDI/AAAAAAAABGY/UP_d_givhPs/s1600/DSC01831.JPG" height="255" width="320" /></a></div>
i finished the back with some leftover blocks and blues i had on hand. the quilting is wavy line quilting with my walking foot and <i><a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=starry+night&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=vmlUUpm9LoaTyQG1sICoCw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=643&dpr=1#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=4sJBkaBBF8MV0M%3A%3B7vCjDCsPvjHZwM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fupload.wikimedia.org%252Fwikipedia%252Fcommons%252Fthumb%252Fe%252Fea%252FVan_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg%252F1280px-Van_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fen.wikipedia.org%252Fwiki%252FThe_Starry_Night%3B1280%3B1014">Starry Night</a></i> inspired swirls around the stars.<br />
i am so pleased to be able to give this to my sis and her little one. it's one of the main reasons i love this craft in the first place.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

this quilt was made as a challenge for the {<a href="http://stlmqg.blogspot.com/">stlmqg</a>}. we did a secret room-by-room swap. my partner wanted a wall hanging for her wine room. i had been wanting to try out the quarter circle pattern for quite some time, after having purchased templates <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TabSlot?ref=seller_info">here</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GkJ4CawhQeg/UbjCZ29VoNI/AAAAAAAABCI/e27RrYLQwy8/s1600/DSC01041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GkJ4CawhQeg/UbjCZ29VoNI/AAAAAAAABCI/e27RrYLQwy8/s1600/DSC01041.JPG" height="242" width="320" /></a></div>
the color scheme was a bit out of my 'norm', but i'm really pleased with how it turned out.<br />

my mom is a soon-to-be school librarian. i wanted to make her something special for gradution that she could use. every book lover needs more totes to carry books around in. am i right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQCNhLSoAuo/UZl8iekkdkI/AAAAAAAABAk/faQb0_kAqpI/s1600/DSC01133.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQCNhLSoAuo/UZl8iekkdkI/AAAAAAAABAk/faQb0_kAqpI/s1600/DSC01133.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
it was the perfect opportunity to try out oh fransson's tote pattern. i've also been wanting to try the quilt as you go method. i'm pleased with how this came out. the bag is SO sturdy. the directions were so clear and easy to follow. the quilt as you go is a little time {and thread} consuming, but other than that, i LOVE it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bYOytaVjlmI/UZl8iqpml2I/AAAAAAAABAo/ZINS3miENe0/s1600/DSC01136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bYOytaVjlmI/UZl8iqpml2I/AAAAAAAABAo/ZINS3miENe0/s1600/DSC01136.JPG" height="288" width="320" /></a></div>
my mom happens to be a "mrs. fox", which means i've been hoarding this fabric for a project for her specifically.<br />
i see more totes in my future!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcHE5L7NlY3TBy7s2QcNGh8wymWSuQ53mL6x333CwINcMcHuDeDTYPIDTEv-Zk9fd4SQm3_ACRnVaxpoG8BEsvv8jVmJcnloGOW_QWSbOfNfV12s3OyQbCtfHEAtalqFtjwIEL9rS-QVA/s1600/DSC01164.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcHE5L7NlY3TBy7s2QcNGh8wymWSuQ53mL6x333CwINcMcHuDeDTYPIDTEv-Zk9fd4SQm3_ACRnVaxpoG8BEsvv8jVmJcnloGOW_QWSbOfNfV12s3OyQbCtfHEAtalqFtjwIEL9rS-QVA/s1600/DSC01164.JPG" height="320" width="236" /></a></div>
this is a modern take on the i-spy quilt for my oldest son, who is NOW 4. this quilt started when his favorite color was green {i've been informed it's now red}. this was my first foray into collecting novelty prints for little boys. i had no idea how many prints i would need. apparently, not as many as i have now collected.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLtoYouiwewnhioDKcJPQ0fl1FJQRqI1dPCwBFDj_fiEpbrIRiiOmdljuk9gfkEGpDTD6XXR__leR9wO3gqst_XVCdErK7aR4FwKhZXIVAKvX75PZma699wDhSgql0ittqGTX5_3sMU9c/s1600/DSC01170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLtoYouiwewnhioDKcJPQ0fl1FJQRqI1dPCwBFDj_fiEpbrIRiiOmdljuk9gfkEGpDTD6XXR__leR9wO3gqst_XVCdErK7aR4FwKhZXIVAKvX75PZma699wDhSgql0ittqGTX5_3sMU9c/s1600/DSC01170.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
this quilt was completely inspired by a quilt <a href="http://carolinapatchworks.com/blog/2009/11/15/mr-liams-world/">Carolina Patchworks</a> did for her son. i loved the simplicity of the pattern and the chance to let the fabrics stand by themselves. what i didn't take into account was all of the different size squares/rectangles and the time for cutting. even done in sections, the quilt took a while to piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvg_RplMTm-Ap-2ppguQf8IFKrsIlPf39lTFKz3P2PS-P8ivhNdq9uKN8N7-lVED4GG6VGpEe2xhKtRHsLSa-S1o9qsvyjzn5lUQe9C2FH0i1Nz_yPKcds2rHPrC64n-bEfHnqurmvcy8/s1600/DSC01171.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvg_RplMTm-Ap-2ppguQf8IFKrsIlPf39lTFKz3P2PS-P8ivhNdq9uKN8N7-lVED4GG6VGpEe2xhKtRHsLSa-S1o9qsvyjzn5lUQe9C2FH0i1Nz_yPKcds2rHPrC64n-bEfHnqurmvcy8/s1600/DSC01171.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
the next decision with this quilt was figuring out how i wanted to quilt it. i'm not a free motion quilter, but i loved the thought of curved quilting with all of the straight lines already going on here. after it sitting for a YEAR i decided it just needed to be done. i found this <a href="http://www.bijoulovelydesigns.com/2012/03/wavy-quilting-tutorial.html">tutorial</a> on wavy quilting and jumped in. it's silly, now, to think that it took me so long to get this done. i love the quilting, LOVED doing it and am so glad to have this quilt for my boy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4rdXdnK3_6s/UaIQTuF37uI/AAAAAAAABBs/jtwJAvfs5ys/s1600/DSC01172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4rdXdnK3_6s/UaIQTuF37uI/AAAAAAAABBs/jtwJAvfs5ys/s1600/DSC01172.JPG" height="218" width="320" /></a></div>
you can see the quilting on the back. i had thought to go even a bit more dense, but ran out of green thread.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QiNWka0SCVo/UaIQUHIzWGI/AAAAAAAABBw/IwZuhJTok6s/s1600/DSC01175.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QiNWka0SCVo/UaIQUHIzWGI/AAAAAAAABBw/IwZuhJTok6s/s1600/DSC01175.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
all in all this quilt was a stretch in growth for me in so many areas. i'm glad to have it done and be enjoyed by little munchkins.</div>

my partner wanted a wall hanging for her wine cellar. i was drawn to circles for inspiration. i had just gotten <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TabSlot?ref=seller_info">these</a> templates for quarter circles. what a better time to try them out.<br />

since there was no specific color inspiration mentioned, i picked some fabric i had on hand and that were out of my normal range of comfort level. i really love how it turned out! i wish i had a few more solid color choices, but now i know to stock up.<br />

this was my first time making a small quilt for hanging. i put little triangle sleeves on all corners so she could pick the way it hung.<br />

i went back and forth about quilting options, pretty dead set on doing some sort of radiating circle from the middle. in the end, i went with straight 1/2" lines. i do love me some line quilting.<br />
